KULGAM: In observance of ‘Good Governance Week’ being organized under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ with a theme ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur’, the ICDS department Kulgam today organised a daylong awareness cum workshop on Poshan Abhiyan to sensitize the field workers and female folk about the importance of balanced diet at Townhall, here.
During the programme experts and speakers deliberated upon the importance of a balanced diet for the children and women to overcome the malnutrition issue.
The Poshan Abhiyan or the National Nutrition Mission is PM Narendra Modi’s overreach initiative for holistic nourishment.
The first of its kind initiative has been launched to tackle malnutrition through multi-model interventions. The broad contour of the scheme is the convergence of technical expertise to reduce malnutrition, stunting, anaemia and low birth weight of babies.
While addressing the gathering, DDC Chairperson Mohd Afzal Parrey highlighted the importance of proper nutrition.
DPO Riyaz Ahmad Sofi said that the aim of programme is to educate women about the significance of proper nutrition for pregnant women, regular ante-natal check-ups, institutional delivery and immunization for infants.
Later, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat along with DDC chairperson distributed baby kits among Nursing mothers and Sanitary Napkins among Adolescent Girls.
