‘To Make Agriculture Profitable, Economically Viable And Environmentally Sustainable Need Of The Times’

BUDGAM: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal Tuesday inaugurated Farmer’s Training/ Awareness Camp under Soil Health Card Scheme (National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture) at Gogji Pathri, Nelnag at Budgam.

The Camp was attended by a large number of farmers, agriculture entrepreneurs and the representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director said that to make agriculture profitable, economically viable and environmentally sustainable is the need of the times. The Department is working on a multi dimensional roadmap for the economic transformation of the farming community, a lot has been achieved but a lot is yet to be done, he said.

He asked the concerned officers to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) so that the identified areas in the district could be promoted in accordance with the agro climatic conditions and crop specific criteria. He asked for the formation of FPOs and to adopt one village in every Panchayat under organic cultivation program.

The Director also held interactive sessions with the representatives of PRIs including Panches and Sarpanches who raised various concerned issues. He assured them that their genuine demands would be addressed in a time bound manner and also gave on-spot instructions to the concerned officers for the redressal of some of the issues.

Earlier, the Director visited different areas of Budgam district and inspected the crop status of oilseed (Mustard) laid during a massive valley wide campaign under the National Mission on edible oils.
