Administration At Door Steps Of People Real Essence Of Democracy

KUPWARA: As part of ‘Good Governance Week’ celebration, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din Wednesday chaired a day long public darbar and grievance redressal camp at Block Development office, Villgam.

The DDC Member, Advocate Ulfat; District officers, PRIs and people in large numbers participated in the camp.

 In his speech, the DC directed all the officers to work with added dedication, and sincerity and advised them to remain in close liaison with PRIs. 

He said that common people and PRIs have a role in good governance and can act as third eye to curb mismanagement if any. He added that negligent officials will not be spared. He said the real essence of Democracy is to bring administration at the door steps of people.   

 The DC directed all the employees to ensure timely awareness of various Government schemes/programmes to the people so that desired benefits could be achieved.

On the occasion, people raised various issues including augmentation in water and power supply. 

 The DC gave them a patient hearing and assured that all genuine demands shall be fulfilled in a time bound manner.

 Imam Din said that he has himself visited most of the areas of the district and convened public Darbars to have a face to face interaction with PRIs and common people, adding that he will cover every village to reach out the public in far-flung areas of the district. 

During the interaction programme, District officers replied to the queries raised by Public and PRIs.

The ACD Kupwara said that out of 29 new projects, 25 have been tendered, 19 allotted and a few completed. He said under MGNREGA labour component has been covered 100 percent.

The Executive Engineer PHE Handwara informed that 5 major schemes under Jal Jeevan mission at an estimated cost of Rs 26 crore have been sanctioned for the Block to upgrade the drinking water facility in the area, adding that the target for completion of these projects is August 15, 2022.

Similarly R&B, PDD and other departments gave detailed information regarding their existing and target projects.

ASP Handwara in his speech informed the gathering that Drug Addiction is a menace in our society and the parents and teachers have a role to play to curb it. He also apprised the gathering about various sections of law pertaining to various social evils.

 Later, the DC distributed various certificates among beneficiaries that include income, RBA, Unemployment and other certificates.

 Public Darbars were also held in other subdivisions including Handwara, Karnah and Lolab where local administration remained available for the public.
